Privacy & security
Encryption & storage
On-device doesn't mean unprotected. Here's how Lucca secures what it stores and where that data lives on your Mac.
Encrypted at rest
Your transcripts are encrypted on disk using AES-256-GCM, a standard, well-tested encryption scheme. The encryption key is stored in Lucca's application directory on your Mac.
Where your data lives
Lucca keeps its data in your user library, under
~/Library/Application Support/lucca-app/ — the local database and key live there. Because it's
a regular folder on your machine, you can include it in your own backups if you like.
Audio isn't kept
Lucca transcribes as you record and does not keep a permanent audio file. The encrypted transcript is what persists, not the recording.
Deleting your data
From Settings → Privacy you can delete an individual session or everything. Deleting removes the encrypted data from your device.
