Local-only AI

Lucca's most important design decision: all AI runs on your device. There is no cloud AI option, by design — not even an opt-in one.

Why local-only

Therapy data is uniquely sensitive — more so than financial or medical records. Anonymization is never perfect, and re-identification is a real risk. So Lucca doesn't try to anonymize and send; it simply never sends your session content off your device. There's no premium cloud tier and no bring-your-own-key option for analysing your therapy content.

How it runs on your Mac

Lucca uses open-source language models that run locally on Apple Silicon. It picks a model sized for your hardware automatically and, after the one-time download, works entirely offline.

An honest trade-off

Running locally means quality scales with your Mac: more memory means a larger, more capable model and richer insights; a lighter Mac runs a smaller model. We think that trade-off is worth it — and we'd rather be honest about it than quietly send your words to a server to make the output look better.
